A Classic Village Pub Nearby. The George is a welcoming 17th-century pub near Spring Hill Farm, offering great food, drinks, and an easy countryside walk.

The George is our local pub and sits just under a mile from Spring Hill Farm, making it an easy and enjoyable visit during your stay. It’s a very short drive, but for those who prefer to stretch their legs, it’s also reachable via a quiet country lane or a scenic public footpath. If you fancy a little variety, you can make it a circular walk by taking the footpath one way and the road back. We’ve put together a guided walk, complete with written directions and photographs, which you can download as a handy PDF from our website.

Dating back to the 17th century, The George is a traditional thatched pub with plenty of character. Inside, you’ll find a welcoming bar area with an old fireplace, relaxed seating, and a warm, informal atmosphere that makes it easy to settle in. The dining space extends from the original part of the building through to a later extension, allowing seating for a good number of visitors without losing that cosy pub feel. During the warmer months, the rear beer garden is a real highlight, offering outdoor seating in a pleasant, peaceful setting.

In addition to food and drink, The George also offers accommodation, including rooms within the pub itself and garden rooms located just off the terrace. While you’ll likely be staying with us in one of our shepherd’s huts, a bell tent, or your own tent in the camping paddock, it’s always useful to know there are other nearby accommodation options. Perhaps especially helpful if friends or family would like to join you on a stay with us here but prefer not to camp, or if our on-site accommodation is already fully booked!

The pub is dog friendly — or at least it was at the time of writing — and while it’s unlikely this will change, it’s always worth giving them a quick call to double check, particularly if you’re planning to dine. Booking a table in advance is also recommended, especially at weekends or for Sunday lunch.

The George places a strong emphasis on local and high-quality ingredients. Their menu generally offers a good range of choices, from pub classics to more refined à la carte dishes, along with traditional Sunday roasts. There should be something to suit most tastes.

Behind the bar, you’ll find a solid selection of drinks, including local ales alongside familiar favourites, as well as a well-stocked wine cellar. The dedicated Wine Room is particularly striking, featuring a beautiful glass-encased wine wall!

“We had such a great time at this campsite! It’s set in a gorgeous rural location. The local pub, The George, is just a short walk away and served great food and had super friendly staff. The facilities on site were excellent - the showers and toilets were spotless the whole time we were there. We hired a fire pit, which was really easy to arrange.

It’s a brilliant place for families, especially with young kids. Everything felt really safe and welcoming. We’d definitely recommend it and will 100% be back! Nick – 28th July 2025
