Where the Walk Takes You

This scenic Oxfordshire countryside walk leads from Spring Hill Farm through Barford St Michael and onwards to the lively village of Deddington. The route follows footpaths across open fields and hedgerows, with a couple of steady climbs rewarded by wide rural views.

Deddington makes a wonderful destination for a longer wander. You’ll find welcoming pubs, a small supermarket, and a collection of independent village shops. Pop into Eagles for quality butcher’s cuts, deli treats and baked goods, visit Quince & Clover for coffee or a ‘fancy’ ice cream, or settle into one of the pubs for a well-earned drink before the return journey.

As you pass through Barford St Michael, you may wish to plan a stop at The George — Spring Hill Farm’s local pub. The optional detour (included in the downloadable guide) works particularly well on the way home.

When you reach Deddington, there’s also the option of a short loop around the village park and playground for those walking with children.

What to Expect on the Walk

The walk is approximately 3.5 miles each way and takes around 1 hour 15 minutes at a relaxed pace. Terrain includes grass footpaths, uneven ground, a few fairly steep inclines and several stiles. Some stiles may be difficult for larger dogs, and paths can be muddy or overgrown depending on the season.

As with all countryside walking, please come prepared:

  • Wear suitable footwear and clothing
  • Expect uneven natural terrain
  • Follow the Countryside Code
  • Keep to marked public footpaths
  • Respect farmland, livestock and crops
  • Always close gates behind you

This is a proper countryside walk — part of the charm is the simplicity and the sense of space.
